Have 89 4Runner 3VZ manual transmission with 346000 miles, Purchased it with appox 340 on it and the engine runs great. New head gaskets and rebuilt heads but it has the power to pull trailer of a half dead horse. My 84 pickup with 22r really pulls my 12' trailer with two ATV's better. Thinking of swapping something due to love the 4Runner and it does everything great except get onto highway or accelerate when pulling trailer. Have heard of the 3.4 swap. Any ideas or other popular swaps

190 HP stock with another 100 - 150 if you supercharge it.

i think i have decided to swap in this engine. Since its popular, has anybody any info on fuel milage compared to the stock 3vz engine. Gears are stock and tires are 31 inchers. basically stock 5 spd 4Runner. Any other upgrade that is recommended other than supercharging? Wanting reliability and decent fuel milage. 3vz only gets about 12 when pulling my 12 trailer and a Honda Rubicon 4 whooler (aka 4 wheeler).

 

also is there any differences in the performance between the years of the 3.4 engine?
