Parking brake question...

So not having seen another 1st gen 4runner's parking brake before, I had no idea why my parking brake light is always on. lol Now I realize that the tab that pushes the button on the switch when it's in is gone. It was like that when I bought it. All I see on the end of the lever shaft is a ring of plastic that looks like something might've broken off of it. Anyone know if that tab or whatever can be sourced or replaced? Anyone want to chime in with their fixes? I saw a parking brake for sale on eBay, but it looked like the tab was a metal piece that inserted into a hole. Maybe that was something done after the stock one broke? Any help is appreciated, of course. Thanks!

That brake light can also be on if you're low on brake fluid.

Yeah, I saw that on another thread when was searching for possible reasons why the light was always on. The brakes were just redone a few weeks ago and the fluid is good. Thanks though. Plus, the light goes off when I push the button on the switch in with my finger. lol

If you can't find another one you could easily rig something on it to push the switch.

If it has a hole for a pin maybe all you need to do is go to the hardware store and find a roll pin to stick in the hole.

You could probably take a small piece of angle and hose clamp it on the shaft so it pushes the switch.

It's a pretty simple setup. You could probably McGyver it somehow.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I might just drill a hole and jb weld or loctite a pin in there.

Red face

There should be a hole already there.

The one you saw is the correct set up a pin is pressed through the shaft maybe yours fell out or broke off.

Really? Well damn....OK. I'll look again. Maybe the shaft spun to where I can't see where the hole is. Thanks Wyoming9!
