first off...lets see the bumper

uhm, lots of people just paint theirs like you did, you could pay to get it rhino lined...or you could herculine it yourself.

the rattle can truck bed coating is pretty durable, but gotta really prep the service, like sand it GOOD, wipe it down GOOD, and put about 8 or 10 coats on it..should be good

i got the dupli color truck bed coating on the bottom half of my '86 and it stands up to rock chips VERY well!!!

Wipe down with a heavy duty cleaner.
coat or two of primer.
Couple coats of your color choice of spray paint

I use rustoleum, hold up great. not to spendy. and easy to touch up.

I use tremclad (rustoleum). Works pretty good. Usually have to give them a fresh coat every summer..

I plan on using POR-15 on my bumper, as soon as I finish building it.

If you have a good powder coating shop in your area, go that route. You won't have to re coat it every year, and it looks way better than spray paint.

I had my front bumper sprayed with LineX Extra and I will never have to touch it again. I don't know if it is the same product type as Rhino but I do know that it has a great finished look, its as hard as a rock and my bumper will never rust out because it is completely sealed over! As soon as I can, I'm getting my rear bumper done the same way.

Is the bumper just there to look pretty or to be used offroad? If you take your truck offroad and plan on scraping it against rocks it won't matter what you put on it, rocks will go through anything.

I am in agreement with 85TurboRunner. I scrape my bumper on stuff a lot in order to not scrape anything else on the truck so I choose to just spray paint. I can't justify spending money on something i am deliberately scraping on things.

i linexed my front and rear as well as my sliders. no prep needed, the shop can do all of the work. however to save your self some money, if you can sandblast them, id do that, then they put on a "special" primer/bonding agent and spray the linex.

if your going to do linex your self, yes, sand it, then clean it and then go to town!

me personally i would not powder coat, as it is durable, it will chip one you crack the intial coating....with the linex, if it scrapes off, my shop touches it up for free for life!

yeah well i dont think i can powder coat anyways because the damn thing is one with my runner now. its welded on and not going anywhere and yes i have every intention on using this thing. mainly put it there for insurence against deer. and offroading as its 2nd purpose. NOW. where would i obtain LineX? i am def a do it myself dude and dont believe in paying a man to touch my baby.

thanks a lot to everyone who through some input down on this thread thanks a bunch!

I would never powdercoat anything that is exposed like a bumper. Get one chip in it and rust will get under it causing it to flake.

Just type in Line X in google and your local places should show up. I've heard good things about Durabak and its available in quite a few colors.
