Truth be told guys I really don't know what I want. Used toyota pickups and tacomas are hard to come by up here. But 206,xxx miles that's a little much. I'll tell you this much the dealership wants $9000 for it which is to much for the mileage. I checked prices on nada and kbb and I know those are high but the list it between $10,000-12,000 w/ that mileage (99, v6, 4x4, 5spd, sr5). I don't know why I'm writing this maybe because I just finished a construction law midterm and I stressed becasue I wasn't able to finish:pat: .

I just bought my first car in april. Im 17, and I bought a 96 4runner for $6k (private party, not dealer). I took out a loan for $3500 and paid $2500 up front.

I have loved it so far. First thing i did was pull the running boards off. switched to a slightly thicker oil because I had 158k miles when i chaged the oil the first time.

Gas milage when i get it was averaging about 17.5 mpg. Now its down to about 16, but that includes the fact i did the ISR mod and deckplate mod and am a little more hard on it than i was at first. Plus i need to clean it out with some seafoam (which i just bought today, and i am about to change my spark plugs)

Mine looked a a lot like that one right there ^^ in the green. Only i had the running boards on and took them off. (look in my avatar, and i have a yakima roof rack, color seems off because of the sun reflection, but its that color)

I say go for it if you find the money. For a deal that price seems really really cheap. My local dealer had a 1996 4runner limited for $13,500 (of course they would have gone down from that, but how much im not sure) just last february.

Since its used, find out what they do to it. I have no idea what has been done, so im about to change out my differential fluids, transfer case, tranny. And of course engine oil every 3000 miles. Im guessing the timing belt has been changed, but do what you can to find out. If it hasn't your going to need it done soon, if not already needing it. Mine was done at 130k miles

I got mine at 17 without a co-signer. My local bank (credit union actually) just started a program designed to give teenages the ability to gain credit. They based my interest of my grades and it ended up being 6.45%. Not bad IMO for a 17 year old without any credit on a 10 year old car with 156k miles.

I'm going to pass on it and look elsewhere what they want for it is a joke. Here is an email that I recieved from them today:

..... gave me a copy of an email stating you were still interested in the 99 4 Runner. I checked with service and the 4 Runner needs a new computer. The computer is bad and is taking out the ABS module. It looks to be somewhere around $2000-2500 to fix it with all new parts. Now we do have the option of trying to find a used computer as well from a wrecking yard. What we are looking at is the fact that this has a low book of $8300. If you are interested we would be willing to take an offer if you want to make one, or if you want to buy it we can set a price based on what it would cost to fix it. Let me know what you are thinking.

Bascially, I told the guy I'm going to take my search elsewhere.

Sounds like a good plan. I had a car dealer call me, and I wanted info on a 97 4Runner they had for sale for about $7500. Nothing was posted on the site besides the year and price. Called me the next day and it had sold, but he was trying to sell me an 02 for about $22k. I was like "wtf, are you crazy? I considered a car for $7500, and you think im interested in something that is 3 times the cost?" Even worse, im not sure what the value of an 02 is, but I have a feeling its not $22k. Im 17, not 30 and out of college

I don't know if dealer's have this type of program anymore, but they used to have a college graduate program, that helps buyers that have grauated to get credit. I got a loan from Capital One online. Good Rate, and if you use a direct withdrawl from your account you get a lower rate. I would still do a serch of 4Runners online at car trader.com or again e-bay got to be something on there, like I said before don't be affraid to travel to get a good one. TJ
