im sure you know but, the only place that gets silicone on the head gasket is where the head meets the timing chain cover.

 

I used Ultra Grey in everything, timing chain cover, rear head plate, rear main seal cover and I will use it on my oil pan. My engine builders told me to use it over the black and on the package the grey appears to be slightly superior--compare them at the auto parts store.

The FSM shows how to use the sealent with no gasket. I was going to use the gasket anyway, but after reading this thread I think I will go just RTV.

i use the right stuff 1 minute gasket maker by permatex. awesome stuff!!! oil and coolant resistant too! the good thing about this gasket maker is that you dont have to wait 24 hours for it to cure.

 

I used Permatex "the right stuff" on my oil and tranny pan and it's as good as the Toyota FIPG for 1/2 the price and like KODE said, it's much faster drying. Mine was 5 minute stuff though, 1 minute is too fast for an oil pan.

 

I tell you what, I am so upset I used a gasket on mine that came with the ENGNBLDR kit. was leaking bad within the first 1500 miles on rebuild. RTV all the way, but be careful with the bead if replacing pan while engine block still in truck. 92Toy can confirm this.

 

yes i can........any lateral movement will "plow'' the FIPG and cause an thin area.......and then a leak.....small in my case and only in one spot.
