OIL QUESTION (Synthetic or SAE?)
Hello. Im currenty thinking about putting synthetic oil in my 86 4x4 4cyl and 89 sr5 4x4 ext cab v.6. I have a 01 but I think im gonna keep it standard for now. My thinking was that maybe the synthetic oil will be better for the older engines? I dunno what do you guys think. Would you guys run synthetic in your older trucks or regular? An if so what kinds?

How many miles on the motors?
I'm not sure if you'll get a good ROI by using synthetic on an older engine. Your money may be better spent on regular oil changes and getting all the other maintenance done on time.
I know that synthetic is superior in quality but I've heard that the real benefits come when it is used for the life of the engine as opposed to throwing it in later in the engine's life. Unfortunately, I haven't done enough research on this point or have any sources to back this statement up.
Bottom line: I'll spend my money elsewhere before I go synthetic on an old motor.
