Odd noise under heavy acceleration.
Well, just after I put in the new axles something else popped up:
The noise only occurs when the clutch is engaged and under heavy load (gas pedal pushed about 3/4- the metal.) Under normal driving I get hardly a chatter. Yes, I know the best solution is to just not drive it like that. I'm just considering driving up in the mountains & climbing steep hills.
It's sort of a whirring sound. Kind of metallic too. It mostly sounds like it's coming from towards the mid-rear of the car. My first thought was something driveshaft related.
I went through and checked the front diff, tranny, transfer case & rear diff, all stocked full of fresh fluid. Right behind the transfer case though are signs of a leak, and I think it might be coming through a seal at the back (http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1990-1995...r/oilseals.pdf) perhaps related to the rear companion flange.
This is as far as I can stab at what's goin on here.... anyone else have an idea?

Picked up some more free time to scrounge through the forums and found this: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...14/index2.html
Sound exactly like what I'm looking at. Springs a couple questions. Sounds like this 4.88 gearing is the way to go. But, I don't know where to get it or even what exactly he meant there, is this the Ring and Pinion he's talking about?
Where's the write-up he's talking about?

It could very well be your differential dying. When was the last time you did a full tune up of the fluids?
Ring and pinion, yes. 4.88 or 4.88:1 gear ratio means for every ONE(1) time the ring gear rotates, the pinion rotates 4.88 times.

Well, I just picked it up about a week ago. I checked all the fluids as soon as the noise started up though (Thursday). Clean as a whistle, they were all as clear as gear oil gets.
