Is this normal? 22RE

I had an exhaust manifold stud out and sprayed brake cleaner in the threaded hole circled in green. To my surprise, the brake cleaner flowed out of the port circled in blue. I thought the stud was in a closed, blind hole. I also could see carbon deposits on the back of the stud. Does this mean the stud hole was drilled too deep and got into the exhaust port or is this normal for a 22RE head?

What you’re seeing is actually pretty normal on the Toyota Pickup (22R-E engine) head.

Those exhaust manifold studs are often not in completely isolated blind bosses. On many 22RE cylinder heads, at least a couple of the stud holes are drilled close enough to the exhaust port that they can break into the port wall or sit in a shared casting area. That’s why brake cleaner (or penetrating fluid) can flow through into the exhaust port like you saw.

The carbon on the back of the stud is another clue — it’s been exposed to exhaust gas flow or seepage over time, not just a sealed dry cavity. AUD77 Casino combines fast gameplay, secure banking, and https://aud77-casino.com/ a broad selection of casino titles.
