Noob Gearing Question

I know I might be flamed for this, but I have searched all over (at least I think I have) for info on gearing. I have a 94 pickup, 4x4, 22RE, with the stock gears (not sure what they are). I had the stock wheels and tire size. I got a sweet deal from a yota buddy who was selling his truck, on some 31"x10.5"'s. I have been driving on them for a few months and they are defiantly drivable, but of course, I have less power and "umph".

Ok so like I said, I don't know much about gearing or anything like that. I'm wondering what gears I should replace them with, and where I should go to buy them.

I appreciate you guys putting up with this noobie here, and if I have done a crappy job of searching, I'd love to be shown a good thread and I'll delete this one.

A good rule of thumb on tires verses gear is 31 inch tires = 4.56 gear, 33 inch tires = 4.88 gears and 35 or bigger = 5.29 gears. Some might disagree! Unless you have a 3 slow, then just put the 5. 29s in!

I have a 3.4 with 4.10 gearing and running 35in trxus. A little slow off the start but not to bad on the highway. I probably will never change the 4.10s out of mine. I may go to 4.88 if i ever go to a 37in tire. maybe. Here is a question. If you dont do any wheeling then why not just buy a smaller set of tires. It could be more cost effective than buy new gears and tires from your buddy. Just a thought.

I already have the 31's and have had them on, and as far as I know my buds truck is sold. I defiantly do some off pavement driving, maybe not as much as others however. Plus I love the look of the bigger meatier tire on the regcab shortbox.

I am running 33s on 4.30 gears and it is manageable.
