no gas in cylinders? why

just installed new engine in new to me fourrunner and cant get it to fire. I have spark and fuel at cold start injector but plugs are completly dry. I assume fuel pump is working because there is fuel at cold injector. All fuses are good and efi relay is clicking like it is working. Any suggestions?

I'm guessing this is a 3.0? We need more info on your rig...

Sounds like a fuel issue. Check the fuel pressure. I think on the older trucks you can listen near the gas tank and hear if the pump comes on when you turn the key to rule that out. It's sounds like either the pump isn't working or you have a clogged fuel line (possibly from sitting with old gas in the system that turned into varnish) or a clogged filter maybe.

ya i have been suspecting most of that. Being that there is gas at the cold start injector i would assume the pump is good. Although i only get gas out of it when it is cranking, none in the run position. I hate just throwing parts at it but getting very frusterated.

Ah not the old "must be the fuel filter" idea

Something is causing the injectors not to open, meaning something electrical.

Start with the basics, testing per FSM procedures. FIRST, start by checking all the fuses under the dash AND under the hood. I can't tell you how many vehicles I have come across with just a blown fuse. Then, move on to the Dizzy, AFM, TPS, etc etc.

Btw you won't get any fuel until the engine is running, since the AFM has a trigger in it which requires the flapper door to be moved (during normal operation, this is done when the engine sucks in air)

Check the solenoid resistor, its mounted behind the fuse box under the hood and it has two yellow plugs comming out of it, if it goes bad the injectors won`t operate at all. I had this parts go bad on my 86 4Runner and the only way to get it to start was by spraying starting fluid into the intake, and when i stopped spraying the starting fluid into the intake the engine would quit.
