Newbie Mistake, Gear Reinstall.
so I totally got retarded one day and pulled my buddys third member out of his 85' pickup, tore down the carrier to install a different one, then very quickly found out that it didn't fit. see here :https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f120...ential-218577/
on reassembly I noticed i didn't mark anything.
so now he wants his 4 wheel drive back and it up to me to fix it. I have read through the instructions on Yukons Site. and I from what i understand. because I never moved the Pinion and I am installing the original carrior and ring gear back. would I only need to set the back lash back to spec? do I need to paint the teeth and check the pattern?
any help would be appreciated. I have some experience with gears when I installed my Aussie locker, but I marked Everything. so setting gears is all new for me.
Thanks for the help.

One of the last things you ever wanna cluck with is a diff when you dont know what you're doing. You have 0 chance of fixing it yourself. Find someone who knows what they are doing.
Well maybe not 0....but get some help....or you'll ruin your boys gears.

From: Nashville TN. I can help you if you're close BUT NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T FILL YOUR LOCATION IN!
Send it to ZUK... And forget Yukon's site... Read www.Gearinstalls.com...

You can do it!
Just do like the FSM says to get it back to where it was. You just need to get the ring gear backlash set again really(page SA-147). Everything else is pretty simple. So go get a dial indicator and a torque wrench if you don't have those, and teach yourself a thing or two. It's NOT rocket science! I do it all the time.

I knew you could do it!
I've even faked it and come out alright though(pretty wide range of tolerances allowed for these things). That was before I knew where to find the FSM and learned about the "right" way to do it. It's gotta be one of the easiest things people are afraid to do on their own. That and cylinder honing, which is pretty hard to screw up too. In my experience that is...never messed that up yet either.
