Newbie facing freeze plug replacement 3VZE

Hey all,

New guy here, and it seems whenever in the past I've tried searching the net for fixes for the 4Runner, I wind up here.

I have a '91 4Runner with the V6. Bought it from a guy who bought it from an old man that didn't maintain it, and lived down south, SC, I believe.

There have been several cooling system related problems. So far I've replaced the water pump twice (second time with a factory pump), flushed the cooling system numerous times. The heater lines were really bad, so I've flushed this thing numerous times. Apparently the head gaskets have already been done, but the guy selling me the car mentioned I may have to do them again.

For now I'm just trying to get it thru emissions. And there is a major leak coming from the engine at pass side front just under the engine mount. I am thinking it's a freeze plug.

Has anyone replaced one of these with the engine intact in the vehicle? Any tips?

Thanks,

Kurt
