Newbie Buying a Yota

Hello. I have been looking to buy a used toyota truck. I went and looked at an 85 sr5 22re 4X4 with only 104000 miles with and OK body and no rust. I was hoping you guys could help me. The truck has a ticking noise somewhere in the front of the truck that slows down as the truck slows down. Any ideas what this could be. Also, the inside of the valve cover has some black material stuck to it. I have heard that this could be because it has overheated. Do you guys buy that? I hope that I have posted in the right place. Any help would be really appreciated because this is just what im lookin for. Thanks in advance!

it is probably a lifter, or timing is off when they changed timing belt. Valve cover may be or may have leaked oil and it is burnt on it.
