Talking New Toyota?(1997 SR5) What should i do to it

Hey guys, I'm new on this forum and I just got a new 4runner also. It's a 1997 SR5. I am very undecisive on what I want to do to it first and I was poking around for some feedback. The front foglight is busted and doesn't work and neither does the other one (if anyone has any idea why it would be a great help) I was thinking about getting some new fog lights but none of them have the same mounting bracket as the original. This puts me in the question of whether i should just a get a bullbar and put lights on that or if I should get a snorkel, etc. I have about $1600 on my budget right now that I could spend so if anyway has an ideas.......

Welcome, the first thing I would do is to replaced all fluids and do a coolant and tranny flush. I would only get a snorkel if you plan on wheeling in water or mud. Instead of a bull bar get yourself and ARB or TJM bar. Check our vendors or Ebay for new fog lights.

Werd.

Also, get familiar with the "Search" function. If you see something someone's done and don't know about it, put it into the search fields and hit "enter". You'll find so much info on so many mods you'll want to do that it will make your head spin and your bank account empty. Welcome to YT!

I have to agree with getting the vehicle in tip top shape prior to modding it. Then, I would just wheel it a few times and get a feel for what I needed. For me, a snorkel would be a waste; it could be for you as well. I like performance stuff so I go for the deckplate mod (+5HP), ISR mod (better throttle response), rear diff breather (prevents water getting in the rear diff), exhaust, etc.

Like CJ said, just about everything can be researched by using the search function. Welcome aboard!

Do what has been said, and use good fluids.. I reccommend AmsOil, espically in the tranny, xcase, and diffs.

The before you spend any money figure out what you plan to use the rig for. Yes, we will all agree, its really fun to do mods... but mod it for what you want to do. Search around here for ideas you have... there will most likly be a thread on it.. and if not, make one

Good choice! And yes, the 5-speeds are hard to find with the 3.4. I looked for a couple months before I found one. IMO they are much more enjoyable to drive on the street, especially when you are pushing 250HP and 4.30 gearing

1st gear is just ridiculous in mine, 2nd gear is a lot of fun, and 3rd gear roll-on passing power is awesome. Above 80MPH it is pretty much a brick (and unstable) so I try to avoid going much faster than that.

Start with the deckplate and ISR mods. You'll love the sound.

Welcome to your new Home. 1st off, go drive the thing. 2nd start reading. I'd say deckplate and ISR or new intake. Then sit on your money until you decide what you need next.

Welcome to Yotatech, besides me, I think you are the only declared highschooler on the board. Mods? Just don't lower your truck and don't put DUBS on it and your golden.
