new tires on 1st gen 4Runner

Hello, this is my first posting here. Anybody know if I can fit 235/85-16s on my 88 4X4 4Runner without a lift? In standard size, they would be 31.7x9.2-16. Would I need to pay attention to backspacing much? Bumper rub is not a problem,as I will be fabricating some higher-clearance square tubing ones soon. Thanks!

Yes they will fit. I got 255/85/16 (33x10.5) on mine with minimal rubbing. I was running stock tacoma wheels, 16x7 with 4.5" backspacing.

You shouldnt have any problem. I run 32x11.50x15's on mine. The wheels they're on have a little less backspace than stock, so it's like having spacers w/o the spacers. The only rub I have is under compression, on the back of the front wheel well, with the wheel turned out. I'll see if BJ spacers make it rub more or less.
