New 4runner owner just some question

Hi all, im new around here. My name is Darcie im 21. i just traded my old rotten 99 vw golf for a 94 runner 3.0l auto. The runner is painted camo and sits stock on 31 bf at's. im new to the yota world considering i came from a dodge family so i owned lots of jeeps and dodge trucks. this is my new toy. any how i have a few issues with the runner i would like to get fixed but just want some info because i dont know where to start. First problem the back door light is on and doesnt go off. second issue is that the rear deforster doesnt work, doesnt light up on the dash or clear the window which is a issue as in nova scotian law we need to have all windows clear or could result in a ticket. third issue is i know with 31's there will be a little bit of power loss but compared to a jeep it doesnt seem like as much as it should maybe im just crazy or too worried. Now mind you this runner would win a beauty contest but will once im done a little body work in spring. it is high mileage but oil has been changed every 5000kms with royal purple and fram filter, intake is stock which id like to upgrade any ideas would be great :p. exhaust is stock witch i would like to change muffler i can handle the sounds a have worn pontiac sunbird with a 3.1 multiport injection motor. i know my way around cars and trucks rather well so if i seem a little less knowledgeable as i shouldnt be excuse me as its the first toyota ive been around. any help is greatly accepted and appreciated.

Thanks
Darcie

ok for defroster check fuses then look at the switch. if u are getting power then u have a bad ground, u might want to do tune up and tranny service. will help with power, as for the back door light it must be shorting out to ground or the switch is bad for the back door and that also could cause the issue with the rear defroster.

Royal purple oil is the best!, please try a wix or NAPA gold filter. fram is the worst in mine and many others opionions.
When you change your fluids, RP has gear and ATF fluid too. It will help with milage too.

Yes, its going to feel slower than a jeep. The jeep had a 4.0L most likely, huh? Even if it was the 4cyl, it was probably quicker than the 3vze-auto combination.
Autos behind any early TOYOTAs are going to make it feel slow. The 3vze was rated at 150hp AT THE CRANK, coupled with an inefficient auto, and other driveline parasitic power losses, probably was aroung 120-130 at the wheels. Then add 31" tires to the combination, even slower you have 4.30 gears most likely. Maybe 4.56s.
I'll bet the rear defroster doesnt work because the switch telling the vehicle that the back door is ajar is fubarred.
Get some lower gears if you are planning on getting bigger tires. 4.88s or 5.29. Even 5.71s are available for Yotas.
Search ISR mod.
Get 2.25" exhaust, free flowing cat, or even just a new cat, and some kind of free flowing muffler.

And welcome to the Yota addiction

If he has the factory 31 package then he'll be running 4.88's straight off. Time for a 5spd swap!

If the rear defogger switch is good, check the connections to the rear window. Mine had rotted off. Just a couple of female spade connectors, and it's an easy fix.

Thanks. Gonna repaint it this summer but normal camo just cause I have camo seat covers and mats and steering wheel cover. Its a damn tank lol. Go a lot more places my jeep did. Also any one have any cool rear bumpers I'm looking for an idea for a new one cause I backed in a huge mound of gravel and dented the crap out of the stock one although it did have 2 holes near the mounts. So gonna upgrade
