Need info on 22r engine in a 85

I want to buy a 85 Toyota pickup but i need to know if the carb will work just as good as the fuel injection.

I have a friend that has a 83 Toyota with a 22r. i like the truck but his had problems making it up steep hills because it was starving for gas. Is this a problem with all carburetor engines in the Toyota or did he just have a bad carb.

Depends on your definition of steep. With open diffs, you'll probably lose traction before you get steep enough to flood out, but if you have lockers and good tires, you could reach the limits of carburetion. There are ways to make the carbs perform better on hills, though.

personally I have had my rear bumper on the ground on an incline and could have powered myself up if I really wanted. Have done this with both the aisin and my weber.

Have heard both ways, have seen post of ways to adjust carb for max incline operation. EFI has a few more ponies stock. Though the 85 has the SA might be able to find a 85 EFI also.

Yeah i had a 22r in my 85 with a weber, i didnt have any problems except i had to pump it when it got cold. but as far as the incline thing, i never had trouble with that unless i parked it on a slight incline, then it would take a while to start. I have an 85 with the efi now, definitely better than carbed, but it isnt as easy to work with while youre on the mountain.
