My 4wd is not opperating right?
I recently just finished getting the 5.29 ring & pinion replace out of my third member and after getting the third member and everything else back into the truck i went to engage the 4wd and it seems to not work? the front tires do not rotate? I lifted the rear end up with the forklift and put it in 4wd to see if it would pull the rear end off but only the rear tires still would spin. the front drive line rotates and yet no 4wd. I had a feeling it might be the locking hub assemble but im not quite sure, it seems like its locking in but i have no idea. I have kinda lost the suspicion of it being the hubs after taking them apart and resembling them but not sure. It does have IFS and the year is 89. If you have and ideas or sugestion I would truly appreciate it! Im very frustrated because I paid 600 hundred on parts to fix my ring & pinion and bearings the and 100 to have then installed! So I need it working! Thanks Neil

Ok, with the truck in gear, in 4hi, and front hubs unlocked, can you turn the front driveshaft? How about in gear, in 2hi, with hubs locked, does the front shaft turn? Trying to eliminate which (xfer case or front diff/hubs) has an issue.

If 4wd worked before having your different done, and no work for was done to the transfer, then you can more than likely rule the transfer case out.
Who did your r&p install? It's unlikely if they were done professionally that there could be an issue with the third. That leaves the hubs? You said you dismantled them. Did you put them back together correctly? Double check. Also double check that the stub shafts are properly seated into your front diff.

Manual locking hubs, I assume. If so, that is the likely cause. Easy enough to put them on and get things lined up wrong and they won't engage. So take apart and try reassembling them in another orientation. I usually get it wrong half the time I put one on, best to test that they work right before snugging down all the nuts and bolts.
