Motor swap

So I have an old 89 Toyota truck, what is a good motor to swap? I would like for it to be a street sleeper. Trying to do this on a budget. It currently has the 22re I believe, 5 speed. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

Did motor swap 94 4Runner 3.0 and now it won’t start and I feel like I’ve checked it all

Ok anything that produces more power than the 22re will be an improvement. A lot of people like to stick with toyota so they do a 3.4 swap. I believe they make motor mounts that work with the 22r(e) mounts.

But in reality whats your end game? Street sleeper is very subjective. My 22re on 33's with 5:29 was a sleeper by definition. It looked like a pug but would get up and go with those gears till about 40. The entire world is currently swapping 5.3 Chevy motors into everything they fit into and lots of things they don't. Come stock close to 300 hp and can easily get over 400 hp. Just need to fab stuff.

So whats you skill level and budget?
