Post more power 22re turbo

Does Anyone know how to get more power out of the stock 22re with the factory turbo kit?? like cool air intakes, fuel air ratios? anything!?!?!?! i dont want to spend loads of money on it yet. i just want a little more power out of the truck...
the truck is a 1987 Toyota Custom Cab with the 22re factory turbo kit. 5speed 4x4.

Pick a figure that you're willing to spend. Then imagine spending 10 times that much.

You still won't get much power out of a 22r type engine.

Make sure that it's properly tuned using high quality Japanese parts, and that all of it' systems are working as designed and enjoy your truck.

It's a thirty year old machine after all. If it's running right it should give about 30 more HP than a non-turbo 22re. About 140 horse versis 110 from naturally aspirated.

Red face

What he said!

Building any Horse Power in these engines is so very expensive.

I have never seen a Factory Turbo Kit I would love to.

Even Having 3 of these Engines.

Then so many parts are now Obsolete !!

I'm not a turbo guy but can't you just crank the boost like on every other turbo car? At the risk of blowing it up and longevity, of course.

More boost will only give more power within the ability of the ecu and the fuel system to respond with more go juice.

The stock ecu on those old turbo trucks was made to work within the factory parameters and little more.

With out spending money..

A degree or two of timing advance, but when it fails its your fault.

You can try adjusting the vafm, but without a dyno and wideband you have no evidence of it being better or worse.

The factory intake is a cold air intake, there is a tube located in the grill that feeds the air filter box/housing.

...
Bang for your buck? Probably an intercooler, some heater wrap on the intake, and an adjustable waste gate to compensate for the pressure drop.

I can't say how much that will get you, it won't be much but it is something and most of it would be reused if you want to get a new turbo, manifolds, bigger injectors, and standalone tunable ECU.

Fishguy beat me to it. I was going to say a 3rz swap. The 5vz-fe wins.

I'm way more familiar with the NA 22re, but if you can use a 261c profile camshaft it'll increase low-end torque, which your turbo engine lacks due to a lower compression ratio. 7.5:1 rather than the 22re's 9.0:1. Your engine is actually less powerful until the boost kicks in.

I really love your truck, btw. I've still never seen one of those crew cabs in person.

Also, what size tires? They look like 31's and if you have stock 4.10 diffs, you're undergeared a little. 4.88 would help you, but limit top speed more. How often do any of us drive these trucks over 80 mph anyway?

Up the boost? Different wastegate/wastegate adjustment.

Have already commented above but..

Bang for your bucks is to reduce power loss in the drive train..

Repacking the wheel bearing, and restoring factory preload on my 94 I started picking up speed coasting down hill instead of dropping it.
