if it doesn't have a grease fitting then it's pregreased and sealed. The MOOG isn't the best choice in Idler arms either. Especially since it's not the cheapeast one out there.

How does the quality of the factory one compare to others? I just swapped one from a parts truck and wondered if its worth buying another one that would last longer

The last one I had put on only lasted a year

it depends on the year of the yota. Your 94 should have the bigger shaft one already which I would consider better then the FA5040 arm. Amd 3 times better then a moog. The on some of the earlier ones I believe they were different between powersteering and manual steering, but essentially they all swap back ad forther from one year to the next.

I never broke my manual steering one in my 87 with 31's, but that was only a little bit of hard trail use. But when I just replaced mine with an FA5040 the rod end on it was shot yet the bushings were good. Not surprising though for it being an original arm.

Every new idler arm I've ever seen came pre-greased ready to install(even those w/o zerk fittings, including the stock Toyota units). So I bet it is.

But I've steered clear of the Moog idler arms, so I can't say that it is with 100% certainty.

This Moog idler arm install write-up doesn't mention needing to lube it before putting it into service.

Well...was there any in the holes you screwed them into?

If so, then yes. It's full of grease.

I guess you could unscrew them and use a toothpick as a dipstick to check and be sure. If it comes back with any grease on the tip, then there's probably enough to last a day 'til you can top it off.

Wait, don't they have some type of rubber boot to seal it all in there? Can't you just...nah never mind...don't do that. Then you might mess the boot up and be totally screwed.

The problem with the moog's is the fact the shaft is so short. IIRC it's also a smaller shaft diameter as well.

I should add It might be just me but anything like a pitman arm or anything I always hit it with a grease gun. But they do have a small amount of grease already in them.

I've heard pros and cons to greasable and non-greasable TRE's etc etc. But IMO as long as your up keeping the grease in then and using a quality grease they are better. However since they are not "sealed" they can tend to accumulate dirt inside the joint.

Got it all fixed and greased up, greased it until it came out the other end and the steering i much tightr and no longer gets stuck a little left or a little right. And is much smoother. The wheels used to turn a little and jerk the steering wheel a little over certain bumps and it is all good now. Amazing that one part can cause so much problems

Moog are considered Good factory replacement parts for most OEM, weve rebuilt many a gm/dodge/ford front end(never could figure out how them asians could make there front end parts last so long) however on heavy use no they wont hold up. Kind of like replacing your factory tie rod ends with Napa or TRW or Moog parts... wearing them out because of oversize tires heavy offroad use etc, vs using bigger stronger Heim joints. Most of those replacement parts that I have seen came with small amount of grease inside... but as xxxtreme22r said, always pump them full after you assemble the suspension parts...

I pumped it all the way full. and it improved rife greatly again, but i dont think i even had 20,000 miles on the other one. But i guess my tires did it in. And what is a good upgrade for it? or should i just keep replacing these as needed since they are lifetime warranty?

And thanks JV
