Measuring Castor

Measuring Castor
Does anyone know how to measure the castor angle on a vehicle. If so can you put it in terms a home mechanic can understand. Any help is appreciated as I want to make sure everything is done right on my 4runner i.e:I just rebuilt the axle and don't want to go careening off a cliff b/c my tires aren't set up right).

Sure. Stick an angle finder on your knuckle, making sure that it is in line with the upper and lower mount points. Angle finder should be on the front side of the knuckle. Vertical will read 90 deg, and your caster angle is the angle you read-90. So, if you read 87, you take 87-90, and you have negative 3 degrees caster.
Note: This needs to be fairly precise on a SAS truck, not so much on an IFS truck. You are better off going to an alignment shop. Anyway, good luck. At least you have the sense to check this before going out and wondering why death wobble flipped your truck.
