There's a lot of opinions on this board. Here's what I have done:

Spray with pb blaster
Hammer the studs with some type of brass. Now I use a brass punch and hit the punch against the end of the stud which makes the cone washers fly off. Before I would put a brass plumbing fitting over the end of the stud and beat on that with a sledge. Either works, the goal is to allow the brass to deform instead of the stud.

Just make sure you leave the nut on the stud so the cone washer does not fly across your garage. Just back it off so it is flush with the top of the stud.

i get mine off by tapping on the top. and rotating around for each stud. Usually after one or two the rest come out pretty easy.

Wow...

Well, if it had to break, I guess that's the best time, speed and place to have it happen.

Guess you'll have to swap in a straight axle.

I just use a hammer to simply tap around the hub. The vibration jars all of them loose.. has worked for me EVERY time.

X2 this is how I have done it much faster than banging on the hub
you also can take very small flathead screwdriver and tap it into the cone washers groove but that takes a lot longer.
