Low RPM sputtering 22r
Good Evening Yota world!
Just bought my first Toyota 4wd a few weeks back and have been slowly fixing small things here and there but have been stuck on this one for a little bit. The truck is a 1988 4runner sr5 with a 22r.
Whenever I am stuck in traffic for periods of time or just idling when i get back on the throttle between 1k and 3k rpm the engine bogs and sputters a bit. It doesnt happen all the time but is fairly irritating since the truck is jerking back and forth a little also it is worse in the rain.
I have checked all visible vacuum lines for cracks or bad fittings but dont see anything wrong. A friend of mine told me to do a vacuum test which I will do later this week when i have time. Ive check the fuel pump and filter and both are good.
I tried the search function but didnt come up with much (forum noob here) just throwing this out there to see if any of the gurus could shoot out some pointers of what to look for first.
Thanks in advance!

do the vaccuum test and let me know what you find. thats the first place i woould suggest looking. assuming since you said its a 22r that its carbed? is it possibly it needs a little tune?

Sorry I should have specified it is injected. I checked out the cap and rotor and they both look good plus the wires dont look to be very old. When I get my hands on some more tools tomorrow ill check the plugs. Going to pick up a gauge to test the vacuum and ill post up what I find. Thanks for the response

checked the plugs, they dont look that great plus the gaps are not all the same. Also on the last cylinder the plug was a little loose. This weekend I am just going to do a tune up and see if i can get my hands on that vacuum gauge to do a test on that. Today It was raining very hard and its worse than its ever been. It almost sounds like a misfire, but once i apply full throttle the truck rockets forward and the problem clears up. today it was happening in all gears until full throttle consistently.

possible EGR plugged
I had the same problem with my 22re. I unplugged the vacuum line going to the egr and it cleared it up. Never got around replacing it because we are not smogged here.
