Lift kits???

I have a 94 Xtracab pickup, and I plan to put a Pro Rock 44 axle on the front. I am looking for an ~6" lift kit that would work well with this set up. AllPro Offroad has a lift kit but the steering would not work with this set up.. If anyone has a suggestion that would be pretty cool. Thanks guys.

so are you planning on going SAC or SAS? that would be a big help.

what are you going to spend money on a custom axle when you for a lot cheaper you could get a toyota straight axle that with a set of Longfield or Dirty 30 Axles that would be 1) easier to work with (off the shelve conversion parts available) 2) As strong or stronger than the D44 axle 3) easier to find spare parts...

I would go with a readily available toy axle IMO...

Find an axle at a local junkyard. Anything '85 and older will have the front solid axle.

I should have said are you going with coil spring or leaf springs?

are you looking to convert to Straight axle because it will give you a big lift or for off road performance? There are several guys on here that wheel IFS rigs on here (TC for one) that put straight axled trucks to shame.

find an axle out of a 79-85 toyota mini truck would be your best bet for converting if you still want a SA.. Most companys-all-pro, Marlin & Trail-gear have kit that would allow the use of a Toyota axle as the easiest conversion.

might want to read through some write ups here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f152/

Since you are up in canada I don't really know of any sources for parts with exception of my buddy Corey aka-slacker: he picks up trucks periodically and runs http://toyotafiberglass.com/ he is in BC....

get a 85 toy axle, you can pickup on craigslist or the yard. usually they are complete as well (hub to hub). be weary of the status of the r&p, the steering knuckles and of course the brakes. you can find sas kits at sky off-road, you just need to know how to weld.

6" is a little high... what are your plans? mudder? crawler? daily driver? usually 5" is more than enough, and for that i would go trail gear springs (if you are crawling) they are flexy and move your axle 1.5" forward (well, where your axle would have been), anything taller you can make up with shackles (5.5"-6")
you'll need an extended driveline to go that tall as well.
i suppose you wanna get a lift to put larger tires. in that case, you will need 4.88's at the minimum, 5.29's would be ideal.
as for your axles, go with the longfields!!! they are the best.

this is a bigger project than most people think. especially if you want to do it right. its always my onpinion to keep everything TOYOTA though, never a fan of d44 swaps, i dont even like 63" chevy springs. just my opinion...

I am doing mudding/wooded trails and hill climbing with it. I would like to go with coils just for better performance. Also I want to do the Solid axle because of better ground clearance. I can weld and my dad can too.. Its what he does. Longfields is a brand?? Do they have a website? Thanks for the feedback!!!

cool about the welding. I am just starting to weld again, been 20-25 years since I laid a bead (I'm an old fart)

-I don't have a good recommendation on a coil over kit, though I have had good luck with trail-gear suspension on my '81 (you will find some folks have a different opinion of trail -gear) t
--they just came out with a front 3 link kit for toys:

you might be able to save a lot on shipping and taxes by ordering through trail-gear canada: http://trail-gear.ca/default.cfm?fa=...TOKEN=27867101

Bobby Long of longField axles is a toyota legend. He has a great reputation for customer service and strength: http://longfieldsuperaxles.com/

hope this helps.

OH forgot to say, welcome to YT. it is one of your more friendly toyota sites with a lot of good tech.
ANother great resource is Pirate4x4.com: http://pirate4x4.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12 however that being said it is a site to search on, don't axle newbie questions there, they eat newbs over there for fun

here is some toyota axle info for you:

Axle Info
Axle info - Toyota

Toyota Mini Truck Front Axle Identification
79-80 no gusset
81-83 short gusset (to u-bolts)
84-85 long gusset (past u-bolts)

Stock Toyota front axle measurements for comparison:
55.5" wide, 29" spring perch centers, '79-85 Toyota trucks and 4runners, SA Hubs
you will need 1.5" wide wheel spacers to match the rear track width of your IFS rear axle.
