Lift on a Budget

'95 4Runner

- 'Cruiser coil and ball joint spacer lift plus all the add-ons comes out to about $500

- other after market lifts range from $700 - $2000

- because the 'Cruiser coil lift is priced near after market lifts, should i just go with an after market lift?

- performance torsion bars cranked or ball joint spacers?

- would i need to replace other random bushings?

You'll need new, longer shocks to gain all the "additional" flex for the lift, kit or otherwise.

What problem(s), specifically, are you trying to solve by suspension lifting or is it just for "looks" ?

What are your goals for the Runner?
If you just want to fit bigger tires get a 1" Roger Brown body lift and some lift coils for the rear and you'll be set.

I fit 33's on my old '95 with some minor surgery to the pinch weld and the above setup.

mostly for balance

the previous owner rebuilt the 3.0; but that's all.

so everyone tells me the engine is good but the suspension is crap.

i just want lasting suspension with a lift. enough to fit, say, 34X10.5's mudders, tall & skinny

but that is the least expensive. (pref. under $500)

You want to run 34's?
You're going to need a big lift or a sawzall to do that with much ease.

Not only it being IFS but with the 3.0 as the powerplant running that big of a tire is going to be a chore.

I have a 1992 toyota 4runner sr5 automatic tranny with 33x12.5x15 tires on it and clearly they rub pretty bad!! one of my friends told me i should get the springs off a fj cruiser and put them on the back end of my truck then buy performance tortion bars and crank them up as high as they would go. does this sound like it could work?? he said it would give me a 3-4" lift. the only reason i'm thinking of going this route is beacuse suspension lifts for independent suspension are way too expensive (estimated for my truck around $1500-$2000) and he said this would cost around $200. if anyone has any advice on this or could tell me where to find a cheaper suspension lift please let me know!!

Lets start at the beginning, as your friend may be a little clueless

Where, exactly, do they rub and when.
