Knock early model 3VSLO

I am new to yotas but am pretty descent mechanically. been a DIYer since my first car in high school some 20 yrs ago or so. Try and make this short as poss. Driving home from work on the FW truck started missing got took the next off ramp stopprd for light truck died making all kinds of sounds. my first thought was a spun rod. sofinally found a used one to replace it with. mind you i just bought the 4runner not even a month ago.so spent all last week taking it out putting the other one in. come to find out there was what was left of the screw part of a hose clamp embeded in the top of my #1 piston. to my prob i got a new timing belt and water pump kit for the used motor i bought. got it all put together everything lined etc go to start it to do the timing on it and ill be dammed if there wasnt the same knock. it sounds like its coming somwehere in the top pass side head. i have spent the last 5 days reading reading everything i could find and have done everything i can think of and ill be dammed if i can figure it out. my last 2 options r i picked up a borescope last night going go down the intake and through the SP P holes and then im going to blow it up or ripp it about before i end up going local. Im open to any and all advice THXS!!!! P.S. i said early model motor cause its definetly not a 93 like the guy i bought it from told me it was. first there r no raised bosses on it for the motor mount brackets on the motor the top 2 holes on pass side and 1 top hole on other. and the block casting #'s from my 95 i pulled out and this one are like way far apart so im not sure what yr the motor is.

I do know that the blocks produced after 88 have some added bosses, but I don't know if they're what you're refering to.

Read this for the details on that.

What's wrong with it? Your guess is as good as mine. You should have enough good parts between the both of them to build a good engine though. That's what I'd do. Or maybe you can afford to buy another one already rebuilt?

Good luck!

well u would think id have enough parts. pulled apart the 95 4 out of 5 pistons where all scratched and gowtched up. already took the heads and bottom apart etc. and now my other one is tore down to bottom of intake using a borescope trying to see if theres anything concerning. and ive still got to do the valve lash on it tomorrow and finish it. with work and a big snow storm coming tomorrow, while the roomate gets the garage. speaking of rebuilds i was checking out the bearings and journals. and reading the bible. i guess if u were to reuse the crank and rods etc. i guess theres like 5 diff sizes depending on the #'s on the block and crank. most places either on the net or in town sell them standard or stand oversizes. how would you go about getting that correct. and no you cant make me go to the stealership!!!!
