should i dump or fix up my truck?


I have a 88 4 runner, 4 cylnder. body is a bit banged up. little rust

i put a lot of money into it though.


starter - this summer
4 new tires - 1 year old
alternator
clutch
clutch plate
rear window
rear window motor
very clean on the inside. looks hardly used. really must see.
shiny gear shifter
battery - 2 years old


the head gasket went 5 months ago and it's been sitting while I've been too busy to fix it.

should i keep it or sell it?

the gas mileage isn't as good as the 6 cylinder.

I hear that changing the compression on the old 4clynder makes the engine less dependable. maybe even worst mileage.

need some advice here. what do you guys think?

Keep it and fix it.

 

Keep it, head gaskets are not hard or expensive to do. There is something else wrong if you aren't getting decent mileage with the 4 banger, could be something else going on, or maybe just driving style. I get 19.5mpg in my truck (Tired 22R, 5 speed, 4:88's and 33" KM's).

 

my gas mileage is poor.

i think it will go about 350 highway km on a tank of gas. that's a 60ltre tank.

some 4 runners get 450 km

Does anyone know what would cause the 22e to get poor mileage?

 

Poor state of tune, high miles, excess drag somewhere in the drivetrain or driving it like a race car.

 

i used to get 350-400 tops in both my 22res,,,
now i get 550-650 with the diesel
