Just a quick carburetor-related question...

I'm debating on whether to upgrade my stock carburetor to a Weber. Was looking at the 38 DGES carburetor and some into the others there.

My question(s) is 1) Is it worth the $300? 2) Is there any noticeable difference in performance and what is that difference if so?

I'm looking for other people's experiences with these carburetors to impact my decision on whether or not I let the money burn the hole in my pocket and get a Weber in the near-future.

I've never had a weber but I've read a lot about them on this website and pirate and it seems like everybody says that they do give a lil more power but you lose some capability in the wheeling department. Do some looking around and you'll see what I mean. I'm sure some others with more weber experience will chime in. If it was me id spend the 300 somewhere else and maybe rebuild your aisin and get it tuned right.

I've had no problems off-road with my 32/36, no more then my stock one. Some issues stalling, but that's to be expected from any carb when bouncing around on the trails. I can put my rear bumper practically on the ground and the engine still runs. Hicups a little but give it a little throttle and it will stay alive.

I can't speak performance wise as I pretty much did mine right after a rebuild.

IMO a weber 38 is gonna be overkill on a stock engine, unless you've at least opened up the exhaust to 2.25" and running a header.

I would not recommend running a weber unless you know what your doing tuning wise either as that's usually where the bad mouth of the weber's come from. Including "drive-ability issues" when off-road.

I'm not gonna be wheeling with this truck, it's only a 2wd and it's just not suited for it... I'm just trying to give it a little more juice in a way.

On the subject of the 38... I'm planning to run 2.25 exhaust and a header before I even consider getting the carb. I have some experience tuning carburetors, but I'm still no genius.. Are Webers difficult to tune?

if not touching internal jetting and air correctors, it's rather simple to tune and re-jet the primary idle jets.
