Just bought a Toyota pickup

Hey guess ..I just bought a toyota pickup over the weekend...
I have always dreamed of having one...
I am 16 i payed a little to much for it... but its pretty cool

her bed is rusty and it needs new shocks all the way around and rubber joints for the shackles ... it has the 22r in it...with 117,000 miles... and there is a spot in the frame needing attention...
I have alot of plans for it ..

i have questions ??

where can i get a snorkle kit?

how can i tell what model truck it is cause i dont think its a reg toyota truck ... cause it has a short bed on it?
and sits high up
I am looking for a bed for it ...too its a daily driver for me I am 16 years old ... so i am going to be fixing her up and stuff through out the years..

i need to get a bed for it the bed is rusty but still solid .... its the outer part of the bed that is rusty...like the bottom foot...
and is there any thing o nthe carbs for these cause the guy i bought it off of took alll the vacum line off of it and stuff.. i need info on how to sort that mess out...it runs fine though the carb needs a gasket kit it leaks .. and man it doesnt heat up very good in the cab!!! ahahaha...

well i love it the truck is beast 4x4!! I think every sixteen year old should have a toyota truck ahaha...

well a pic of it will help with the model..and the yr too.. i would worry about the frame first then the bed or do a flat bed on it, then worry about snorkel somewhere in the middle of that... as for carb once u find the yr of it do a search for the repair manual for it and find that info in there.

its a 1985 toyota

here are picks .. i am going to fix frame then i dont now build flat bed or something might find a bed for it

http://i939.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/100_4965.jpg

http://i939.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/100_4963.jpg

I am going to say it has a lift on it ... 2 or 3 inches ... first things going to get done are all new shocks ..shackle joints and frame fixed... then either do a flat bed with roll bars or custom this bed and cut rust off of it... idk still coming up wit hideas for the bed its still solid .....

some one but a gti emblem on the front off a VW ahaha.. and on the back theres a 5.2 liter V8 emblem off a dakota...
but its a restoration project and a customizing project... I am also a bigIH truck fan so i have a Ih symbol cut bye a cnc machien to weld on the front bumber too!! but i am going to clean here up

im 15 and have a 1994 yota(that i love). You are going to Love yours! I think it might be a Toyota Pickup Hilux. you can look at the vin. and look online and you should be able to find it. i would just clean the rust up a little and bondo it but thats just me. Good luck!

Having a gutless 22re coupled to an auto probably saved my life as a teenager. Enjoy your first truck.

I'm going to recommend that you deal with the frame/bed and then bank your money for repairs. It would suck to be riding the school bus because you put all of your money into mods and something completely unrelated left you stranded.

Next time you pass a car wash, blow the mud and other crap out of the inside of the frame. Just don't hit the bed, or you may have nothing left!

I'm giving you crap about the bed because 1-I have two frames that are at least that bad in my yard, and 2-as an Ohio State fan I must pick on anyone I meet from the state up north.

i bought my 94 pickup two years ago when i was 17. its never let me down at all and goes places much farther than a big lifted fullsize and fits down quad trails. since yours is a 22re its probably a base model but could be a dlx since teh dlx had the option of a 3.0 and the base came stock with the 22. dont worry about the snorkel now just get it up to good running conditions and then when everything works and looks good, go for the snorkle. try and flat bed it too depending if you cant get a decent priced bed cause those look pretty good if you do it right. good luck man

Since it's an 85 it's the carb'd 22r, not the 22re. Also the 3.0 didn't come out till 88, but as far as I'm aware it could be a dlx. My 87 4runner does me great with it's 22re! It's everything I want in a truck, it keeps up great with the full size trucks I mob with.

Not necessarily, but most likely. The 22re became available for the trucks and 4runners late '84. There are some '85 trucks and 4runners with the solid axle and EFI. Just not too common.

I'd fix the frame first, if something would go wrong and you can't get that fixed you don't want to have put a lot of money in it...

hey guys

well it is a 22r... engine the gti is off a VW but .,.. here is my plan ....

weld up frame...
new leafs springs
shocks and get the bed off ..flat bed it?!?!?!!?!?! not sure saw some sweet ones i just dont want the frame sticking out i would build a fenders and stuff have sides on the bed .

engine needs gaskets it leaks...

then clean it up fix rust holes on bumper and fix rust on cab and fenders not much....

get new tires there 11 years old!

I need a summer job

and this isnt my first truck ... my first one was a 1957 Ih truck
I bought it to restore but sold it cause it was to bad of shape

then 1991 dodge pickup the na dodge dakota then my pride and joy my rusty toyota ..... I am going to say the truck is a dlx model it doesnt have a tach

and is all vinyl in the inside but i think 500 bucks would fix the frame and leave springs along with shocks ... maybe a bed... i can get steel cheap...

thanks for your info and i got a sweet pic to post of the truck i had it in a barn and thbe sun setting looks great ...so ill post it on here soon ...

but theres kinda my game plan on it

Oh ok, thanks for the info. I didn't know that.

It sounds like you've got a pretty solid plan for your truck. The flat bed I'm not to hot on, but that's just me! I've always been into the they look stock with some suspension work.
