Inter-generation Body Panel Interchangeability!?!
Hey everyone, my DD 87 runner, 22re 5spd, is about to die on me. I tried googling and researching this, but I honestly could not find anyhting. This past week EVERYTHING is broken down on me! The Syncro's in 4th blew, so now I gotta jump form 3rd to 5th, on an already tired engine. I know I should've replaced it a while ago, but my clutch is about to come up through the floor and eat me, so the plan is to put it aside, and do a 7mgte swap over wintertime. My replacement vehicle is a 90 ext cab pickup (the registration came up as 1989, but as far as I know, they didnt start that body style until 1990, or was that just the 4runners and am I confused?) anyways, I gotta drop the tank and repair a leaking brake line, and ghetto rig something for the E brake to pass inspection.I don't wanna dump a whole lotta cash into it, as its just for winter, but she needs new front fenders. Would it be possible to swap over both doors, both front fenders/trim and marker light assembly's from my 87 4runner to my pickup? that'd save me a whole lotta work, as fenders arent easy to come by around here. I mean, if not, I'll try again to find some, but I figure this will save me some heard earned coin! Thanks guys,
Jake

I'm really screwed. Things are tight, and like mentioned, the clutch and the transmission in my 87 4runner is toast, and I,ve got a 89 yota pickup with 2 leaking rear brakelines in between the tank and frame. I dropped the tank, but for the life of me, I cannot flare the lines to splice in an already flared section of brake line. But, the fuel line coming out of the fuel pump, was so rusty, as I was taking it out, a little corner cracked, could I use the entire gas tank from my 87 22re 4runner in it? would I be able to cut it where that crack is, slide a small section of fuel hose over top of the two ends, clamp the crap outta it? Or could I swap tanks between the two vehicles? I'm sorry for asking newb questions, I'm just in dire times, Ive no vehicle for work now and am gonna lose my job

Body styles went like this:
84-88 Pickup
84-89 4Runner
and
89-95 Truck
90-95 4Runner
The 89+ Truck and 90+ 4Door 4Runner share the same fenders, but not the same doors. 4Door 4Runners doors are a few inches shorter.
Also, you cannot bolt on early (84-88 truck, 84-89 4Runner) parts without major modification. The body style redesign was too drastic.

Peow130, that's actually a good idea, the 3vze in the pickup is fairly fresh too! What all would I need to modify/swap over when transplanting a 3vze from that 89 ext cab, to my 87 22re 4runner? Where would I source a driveshaft out (as the R tranny looks longer than the W tranny)?

Better yet, link me to a thread all about a swap please? As I'm sure 1.7 million other guys have asked that and you probably get sick of answering
But then I read pages like this and wonder ..

ah..3.slow to 2.4L 22re...i think there are a FEW threads...but i'm not sure on where to find em lol
and it would be A LOT (read this as; A FREAKING LOT) easier to fix the brake lines and E-Brake on the '89 pickup, rather then do a motor and transmission swap bro...trust me.
