So the quick 'walk of shame' answer is yes, I have been shifting into 4th and not D.

The long answer would add that I remember a Miller High Life commercial where a guy was drinking a beer in his lawn holding a rake and watching the guy across the street try to back his truck, boat and trailer in a driveway very unsuccessfully. The quote was "there used to be a day when a man knew how to handle his automobile".

It seems now that with my recent posts, I have become that guy.

This is my first Toyota and I bought it used from a Chrysler dealer (2011, 11K miles, $23K) who apparently didn't notice that I was in 4th on the test drive. The shifter just kind of always came to rest at the 4 and with the shifter plate reading 4-D close to each other, I thought it was the same thing.

I just took it on the freeway in D and got to 68MPH at 2000RPMs.

Thx for all of the feedback.

Now if I could figure out how to turn the orange running lights off in the daytime....??? Anyone, Bueler?
