Ignition and door key upgrade?

I was wondering if it is possible to change the ignition switch and door tumblers to something newer with a thicker key it's for an early 2nd gen 1991 3VZE ? maybe something with a chip if possible?

Maybe possible, BUT why would you want to add complications and more things to break on a utilitarian vehicle famous for simplicity and reliability?

It is probably possible with a complete stand-alone security unit.

I have never seen anyone here do this yet.

My guess for the reasoning of this install is for security reasons.
