IFS gearing question... help

Wanna go from 33" tires to 35's and considering 5.29 gears as my best gearing option. Will the same ring and pinion setup for the rear axle work for the IFS front axle?!?! Or does it take a different setup? my rig is a '94 v6 yota

Thanks for the help and expertise

Welcome to Yotatech!!!!

Yes you want to match your R&P's front to rear!!!! Unless you plan on only drivin on loose stuff forever...

Please use the "search" function as alot of gear stuff has been covered on here!!! Good luck with your project!

Oh, don't forget that the rear end has an 8" ring gear whereas the front has a 7.5" ring gear so you cant swap front to rear like the straight axle only trucks can.

I'm guessing you are currently running stock gears with your 33s. If so, then yes I'd recommend moving to 5.29s. But if you've already regeared for 33s, then I'd say just live with the power decrease you'll get from running 35s.

As BigBluePile mentioned, do a good amount of searching and reading up on your own. There is tons of information regarding gearing on this forum.

by the way, Welcome to Yotatech!!

Oh I can tell I may not have phrased the correctly... Can I use the same size, etc. ring and pinion gear for the front IFS and the rear? Of course I need the same gear ratio. You answered the question for me though. Gotta have 7.5" in the front and 8" ring gear in the back. Same pinion gear? Any other considerations that may help me search for the right parts for the job?

I'd imagine the pinion gear is different.
