Idler Arm

My question is, is it very difficult to replace an idler arm on the 88 4runner, the difference is $200 at the shop compared to me doing it at $48...special tools needed? Thanks

The only difficult part is getting it seperated from the centre link. A ball joint seperator and a bfh usually works. Apart from that the bolts holding it to the frame are tight, and may be rusty. Spray with your favourite penetrating lube the day before.

I just replaced mine on my 94, it really wasn't that bad at all. Just spray down all the bolts with wd40 before you do it. For the center link problem, try hitting on the end of the link with a hammer until the stud pops out. It took probably 15 hits but then it popped right out.
