Hey i need some suggestions on what some toyota owners would do to a 94 runner. I just got this runner and any suggestions on how to improve the rig would be greatly appreciated. The main goal of the parts i want to add is to increase the off road ability of the runner with the best "bang for the buck"

Also are sliders a good purchase

The runner is 5spd v6 manual

 

Lockers and a winch. Once you get those, yes you'll need sliders.

 

Solid Axle Conversion.

 

Most bang for the bucks? um...
tell us more about the runner..did it come with 31" tires or 28"?
If 31" then you have 4.56 gear which you can run 33's tires on level ground ok...up hill require down shifting....
You also want 1" body lift from Roger Brown.
1.5" Ball Joint spacer for the front from Roger Brown.
3" rear lift from Downey Offroad or you can get things in pieces.. ...LC coils, pan hard bar extension, brake line, end links...stuff that Downey sells with the 3" kit.
rear locker..detroit is good or ARB or toyota elec. locker.
oh, and sliders too. Winch...if you go with other people, you hardly need it.

and clear corner lens, brush bar, roof rack, 10 LCD monitors, 8 subs, 18 amps, PS2, small waterfall, tinted windows?......etc. What else goes in a " Pimp my ride"?

You guys are forgetting the "New Car Scent" air freshener.

 

Depends on the terrain. Sliders are another thing that isn't totally necessary, but if you were ever to cross some taller rocky areas, or fallen logs, you'd probably want them. I (and a bunch of other guys) just bought some Marlin sliders for $99 + shipping; good deal!

why sliders are a good idea:

off-road
- the obvious protection to the rocker panels when offroading when you hit a rock, either on purpose or accident
- in a tight spot offroad, when used on a rock or something they can make a good pivot point to help get the truck around the obstacle

not off road
- a convenient place to step for roof access, or even just getting in the truck
- a good spot to lift the truck using a hi-lift jack
hmm...
- can protect against door dings from lowly cars
- look a whole lot better than running boards

all this for around $300-$400? yeah, worth it.

i love the feeling of buying something new, a change of pace is always fun. first thing i like to do when i buy a new truck is get seat covers, new floor mats, do a full tune up and flush out the fluids in the tranny and diff(s). then use your imagination and let your credit card be the limit!

I just picked up a 93. It came with 31s

I am replacing shocks (prolly with OME's as they allow for some lift) and rear spring spacers for now.

Will add BJ spacers up front and springs when the right price presents itself.

I am going to ditch the Running Boards and get some sliders... no decisions on what brand yet, cost is an issue...and I know I should invest in a locker first but its just my GF will kill me if she cannot get in the thing.

Outside that, I just need to decide if I am going to add roof rails or use a Yakima system to mount my load basket for all the other chit you need to carry.

BUt...it must remain my comfortable daily driver so nothing to radical yet.

nrgetic- look at the yakima tracks, Those are what I run. I have the yakima railriders and 48" cross bars, it looks fairly stock. I don't carry heavy stuff on the roof like spare tires, usually only soft goods like backpacks, bedrolls etc.

 

Anthony1 is pretty damn close. I would start with ditching the fat (runing board, rear bumper) get a locker and some kind of decent tire. you would be surprised the kind of fun you can have in a good allterrain (this coming from a guy on bias ply tsl's)

 

if i was gonna start, id get ground clearance...bj spacers, land cruiser coils, new shocks...marlin crawler still having that slider sale??? check them out. lockers: if you want bang for buck, get lockrites....some 33s if you have the 4.56 or 4.88 stock gears. I have stock 4.56 in mine, but an auto tranny, and when i put on my 33s my mpg went D O W N big time. Ive heard 5.29s go with an auto and 33s...anyway...thats what id do
