I need help identifying a wire ('92 4Runner 3VZ-E)

Hi,

What is the electrical wire that runs down below my engine and plugs into a thing between the front wheels? I've recently learned a TON about the engine itself, but I know nothing yet about the drivetrain etc, so I don't want to assume this is even part of it.

The one guess I've had is that the wire and the thing it plugs into have to do with the ADD system...

The plastic catch on it is broken, and the wire keeps falling out and dragging on the ground. I'm going to tape it up temporarily, but I want to replace it ASAP. I just want to know how important it is for right now, and if it falling out could have caused a temporary "check engine" light appearance.

Tnx,
Jason

You're probably correct, and if it is that wire the only thing it controls is the 4WD light on the dash.

So you think it comes from a sensor, rather than going to the auto-hubs?

Would this cause the "check engine" light to turn on?

It sounds like your wire that turns your 4WD light on (in combination with your transfer case lever switch).

I had the same problem with mine, and just ran a small zip tie between the wires on each connector, and used that to hold them together.

Cool, that's a good idea...

Thanks,

Its the ADD sensor to turn the 4x4 light on the dash, The electrical books Ive gone through show that there is a signal from there that goes to the ECU but I can tell you it makes no affect for manual transmission, The only thing I could think of it doing if anything is idle up or tells the system to dissengage something like AC but I doubt it.

No auto hubs on 92 only ADD, If you havent put manual hubs on then your hubs are locked all the time.

Ah, great info. Thanks.

I know so little (so far) about that whole system, that I thought auto hubs and ADD were the same thing. :o

ADD locks the front diff, AH is lateryear where the Diff is permalocked and they make the hubs hookup.
