depending on how well ur 22r is running, it will be a turd but not un-driveable... i had 33s on my 85 with stock gearing and once i got use to it and got it running well it wasnt to bad. you deff wont be passing on a hill thats forsure... alot of people will say that 4.88s are a must for 33s.. but honestly its not that bad IMO....i like your choice in tires, if i wouldnt have got a deal on my goodyear MTRs i would have gone with KM2s

It'll be terrible, so bad your motor will blow up, and your clutch will self destruct, you should probably not ever drive your truck again and let me have it! It won't be bad, I DD my 86 with 33X12.50's and its got stock gears, its aight.. cant use 4th gear anymore, you prolly oughta regear to 5.29's skip 4.88's use the extra gearing to make up for the lack of power the four poppers got.

you could try 285/75/16's..sure you would have to get another set of rims but I had those on my old Taco, they were about a 32x10.50
taco on the left with 285's, my '81 on the right with 33x12.50

ZUK (gearinstall.com) charges $250 per third, prefers to use Motive gears and Master install gears. Gear sets and install kits will run $400-500 for both sets. There is a guy in the salem, OR area that charges $150. That is if you bring them the thirds. If you are planning on doing a locker, do it at the same time.

some venders Like trail gear offer complete geared third, just install them yourself.
have heard good things about these guys on another forum: http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/c-61623-toyota.html
Dave's Off road is in Diamond Springs, CA http://www.davezoffroadperformance.com/

shipping on thirds is about $50-75 each last time i checked

Going to 5.29 now is good advice. I made the mistake of paying to have gears done twice in less than a year when I found a 'good deal' on some 35's on an old truck.

yup im running 5.29's on 33's for dailydriving, but i have some 36's for wheeling.

Glad i went with the 5.29's.

On a side note: don't gear too low if you plan on driving fast on the highway. I think i top out somewhere around 65-75 and thats in 5th gear at almost 4k rpms.

33x10.5's wont be bad on stock gears. I'm runnin 33x12.5's on my 4.10's and i can still make 75 on the freeway and cruise at 65 in 5th. If it was my money, i would throw them 33's on there and start saving for a locker and 5.29's.

Right now I'm running 32x11.50's on a V6 with 4.10's and I'm looking to get some lower gears. My question is what will happen in 4wd if your gears in the rear end are geared differently than the front end? I was looking at a 4runner with 5.29s in the rear and 4.10s in the front...it didn't seem to make sense to me. I am a newbie so I confuse easily!

It will look a little like this minus the mountains in the background just imagine your location in place.

That's what I thought! What confused me the most was how the guy who was selling the runner was bragging about it! lol
