How to remove surface rust from a chrome bull bar.

I just bought a used chrome bull bar for a great price, and it has some rust in places, varying from a light speckling on the side to a fairly heavy layer beneath each crossbar. I'm wondering what the best and cheapest way would be to remove the rust and restore the bare metal finish. I searched, and the best I came up with was naval jelly; will this work? How about Evapo-Rust, or is there a cheaper way? I've already tried steel wool, and that doesn't work, and I've heard it takes the chrome plating off along with the rust. What are my options?

Well, sand it and rattle can it black, chrome is for mallcrawlers and lowriders...

Hate to say it, but there ain't no other way to get the rust off, unless you have it re-chromed which is like 500$

well depending on how bad, get out the SOS pads (the steel wool pads with that wierd blue soap stuff on em thats probably lurking under your kitchen sink) and a hose and lightly scrub the chrome.. keep it good and wet tho, if done right it wont scratch up the chrome... like i said depending on how bad the rust is.

Or use grade 1 steel wool you can clean glass with grade 1 steel wool and it won't scratch it. It should come off easily with some elbow grease

LOL! I know what you're saying about flat black, but the rest of the trim on the truck is chrome, and so are my fog lights, so at least it matches!

I'll have to try the SOS pads and grade 1 steel wool (still curious about Evapo-Rust, though).

I tried Never-Dull, it shined it up real nice, but it didn't take off any rust.

Not to sound like a jerk, but this would imply removing the chrome finish. But serioulsly, I would sand the entire thing down, prime it and repaint it with a Chrome spray paint, and then put a coat of clear on top of that. I am almost 100% positive that Rustoleum sells a chrome spray paint for metal. This would be a lot cheaper getting it redipped, as all the material should only be like $25 bucks from Lowes.
