How can I increase my trucks power?

I got a 2WD 1988 toyota pickup truck with a 22R-E engine.
Nothing has been modified in it or anything so.
I was wondering what can I do to increase the horsepower of my truck? Ive been looking into air intakes and stuff but I have no idea what they do or what I should buy.

Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Air intakes are a big waste of money. Unless you have a high HP engine where every tiny HP counts, dont waste your money.

First step, get a better exhaust. LC Engineering makes great headers and exhaust systems.

Then get a mild cam, that will help open it up a bit.

Those two will get you the most bang for your buck, without getting into major engine mods or rebuilds.

"Will my truck fit 33"s without rubbing"
and
"Have you seen the amazing Toyota Hilux video?"
and
"Truck wont start, HELP!!"

A motor is just an air pump. Get air in and out quicker with an air intake and a better exhaust. Then, when you are ready for a cam, get some valve work done at the same time. A higher output aftermarket ignition system will help.
