I wouldnt risk it, super dangerous and you probably wont make it out alive. Brakes get hot and quit working, you also got to remember your steering column will probably lock. Call someone to pick you up. You really need a meter or something the cables may look fine, but I bet they are broken internally, happened to me one day!

take a screwdriver turn the key on and go under the truck and touch it to the starter positive and negative. dont touch the metal and probably wear some gloves but just link both positive and negative... should fire right up

geez--did you even try compression starting it like people suggested? I can't count how many times I have done that and gotten home.

yes you will still have brakes if they were working prior to the truck crapping out

Did you go wheeling alone, and/or without recovery gear?

I hate to turn this into a "lesson learned" type of thread, but it could be much worse. You could have been where no tow truck could get to you, ill-prepared.

as for the braking, if you have compression you have decent braking. 4low, e-brake and your foot will stop the truck. but steering is another matter..

i got a tow strap on my Chevy, dont matter where he is ill get there and pull him out.... un less he is in a 7' wide wash, then i wouldn't fit..

It sounds like he has a key, even if there is no power to anything, by turning the key to the ACC position the steering column is unlocked and he will be able to steer.

It wasn't really a wheeling trip I was going up with some friends shooting. We had one other vehicle but no I wasn't prepared for anything. Insurance paid for the tow. It was late and hailing and really windy I just wanted to get it home I've seen other trucks that have gotten stuck up there and left end up fulla bullet holes in only a couple days.

I really wasn't in a good spot to try that. The road went down hill both ways. I was lucky I was parked where I was. Also I don't understand how the ignition is gonna work if there's now power to anything?

ding ding ding!

I had one with a fuse somebody put in it... It would blow them like crazy! To my knowledge you do not even put one there...
