help with leak!!

Hey guys,
Sorry to cut in on this thread, but I need some help with a leak and you guys all seem to be knowledgeable. 97 tacoma 4x4 manual. Transfer case is losing a lot of oil, but not sure where from. I know it's not the rear output shaft. I think it's coming from all around where the transfer case joins the transmission. The entire transfer case is covered with oil, and it drips from the skid plate. Is there a seal inside the transfer case where it joins the transmission that could have failed? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I have a question along these lines as well, because i'm low on tranny fuild and somehow way overfull on transfer fluid, so i was wondering if its possible that the fluid is leaking from the tranny to the transfer? Maybe we can figure something out here.

Sounds like that is what's happening. I went to the dealership this week and ordered a seal to go in the transfer case where it joins the tranny (and a few other seals). I didn't see the diagram of the tranny, but there has to be one on the tranny side that keeps the fluid out of the transfer case. Those diagrams are about impossible to find online, but your local dealership can access it for you. Hopefully you can get the seal, drop the transfer case, and replace the seal without having to pull the transmission.

As its my DD, at this point, i'll just check fluid often, draining from the transfer and adding to the tranny, but i will look into getting new seals in there. thanks
