from one YT noob to another:

Do you have the factory locker?
What's your axle code?
You could jack up one rear tire (open diff) and turn the driveshaft once. Count the revolutions the tire makes and multiply times two.

that said, there's a good chance you have 4.30s.

w/o the locker, you might have 4.10s

With your engine, and either 4.10s or 4.30s, you should be able to run up to a 32 without too much difficulty. People run everything. 33s is probably pushing it, but if you stick with a narrow tire (like the bfgs in 33x10.5), it wouldn't dog as much.

I had a 91 with 4.10s and a 4cyl, and I ran 31s on it comfortably. My 98 runner also has the 4cyl, and I'm running 32s with power to spare, imho, but it has the 4.56s in it.

What tires do you have now?
The popular choices are a 265/75/16 or a 285/75/16, which are 31/32 and 33 respectively.

4.88 for 33s, is optimal.

Unless you have the 3.90s, you probably don't "need" to regear for 31.6" tires. I have 4.30s and 35x12.5s and my V6 turns 'em just fine.

You do realize you'll lose top end speed (max mph) if you go with lower gears?

??????????

Just tryin' to help "friend". But, if you suddenly know everything there is to know about gearing for Toyotas (a little obvious as to the answer to that), then I'll be on to the next thread. And, your welcome, by the way (assuming you checked the link I gave you, if not then maybe you should try another forum for better advice).

For our older motors, yes, but for the 5VZFE, I would do 4.30 or maybe 4.56 for 33's as they don't like to (and certainly don't NEED to) be revved like our motors do.
