Help with 83 longbed pickup

I just got a 2wd 83 longbed pickup with around 142,000 miles on it from my grandpa. Its in pretty good shape. I don't know much about it but I do want to get new wheels, tires, and possibly a lift so it won't look so much like a car. I also tend to bottom out pretty frequently when I have to go on trails at my hunting club. So I was thinking about getting some bigger tires that would help me sit up alittle higher, and avoid that.

It has 25/8.5r15 now. And I was looking at getting a 3.5 inch body lift so I can fit 29/10.5 tires with some new wheels. I'm not looking to spend more than about 850 or so.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

at most do 2", I can't find the link but I believe any body lift over 3" is verboten by the DOT.

you might find some ideas in this Desert Tech folder
http://www.dezertrangers.com/home.htm
hope that helps..
you can also put 79-83 4x4 fenders up front, that will give you a larger fender opening up front or just trim your current wheel openings..

Good luck and welcome to YT

Getting rid of any 1st gen would not be an option for me 2WD or 4WD, unless it went away in the back of my truck fro scrap.

If he only wants to run 29s is it really necessary to sell the 2WD? No, just search for a 2WD lift...BJ spacers maybe? Shackles for the back...nothing crazy.
