I put an AIRADE cold air intake and a throttle body spacer on my tundra. It will get rid of the air box, but you still need the sensor.....

Welcome to YT !

What kind is yours Chef ? I went with the Airade cause you can use the throttle body spacer, all the rest you can't.

Hey Shepherd, ...... thanks SC! lol. It's better, but still got some weird crap goin on(posted a lil one in my build thread).

Anyway, Shep, ......LCE CAI kit. It was bolt in and really heavy duty, tapered/cone bolts for flush fit, etc, blah blah, lol. I DO notice a lil more 'GET UP' with it, the LCE header and even before I got the CAM.... but, it's SO LOUD when just standing over the hood! lol. I can't even do good "hey, listen to this LOUD tick I have" videos, ...cuz it just over-SHOUTS it, lol. I still have my air box, and actually, i've had two of the best machinists in CA and one in PNW tell me, "yeah, ...don't like em. If you do it right, you can get plenty of air, save gas and keep it cleaner. Those things do one thing MUCH faster.........SUCKING DIRT INTO YOUR MOTOR!" hahahahah. So there ya go, lol.... I wonder how much truth to that there, eh? lol.

Thanks, Shep, ... appreciate it. It's been a ROCKY AS HELL road, lol. But, yeah, I had a bit of time so i decided, "Ok, time to go ADHD and DETAIL CRAZY on this thing!" hahahaha. Came up with a paint scheme and voila, I think it's pretty cool. I tell you what, ....I'd paint it puke green for a year to not have had all the trouble I've had due to this machinist, ...PROMISE!

hahah.

Anyway, do some research, OP, .... depending on what you're planning on doing, it's not always necessary to get that much more air in than Stock. And, remember, ...the Stock set up actually pulls in MUCH cooler air than most of these Kits. NOT knocking them....I'm still learning, and to be honest, it's REALLY contrary, the opinions of the "PRO's" and GURU's OUT THERE! LOL.

out of curiosity, OP, ...why you wanna get rid of the box? What motor?

I guess it all depends on where you drive..... It still has a filter though I don't know about all that micron size stuff. Most of it should stick to the oily stuff on the filter though....

I went with the cold air dam on my filter system. It has that box around it that fits into the factory base of the air box. It has a rubber seal around the top that seals to the hood, so it sucks in all outside air, not the heated air around the motor. I love it, I'm thinking of putting one on my FJ. It does change the sound, with the throttle body spacer it makes a squeal at about 3000 rpm. I really noticed a horsepower gain also..... Mpg went up also when I keep my foot out of it, but sometimes you just gotta hear that squeal...lol
