Gas Tank Options

Gas Tank Options
Hey guys just recently went up wheeling after getting the new tires and bumpers on , and while I was up there, I was constantly worrying about the gas tank hanging down. So I really want to find a way to get the gas tank higher up so I don't have to worry about it as much.
I HAVE done some searching on gas tank lifts but I don't have a body lift and DO NOT want to get one.. I also don't want to cut my floor to make room for it. I am not completely opposed to getting a different gas tank but id rather keep the stock one. And if getting a new tank was my only option what kind would I get and how hard is it to put a new tank in?
So basically my question is, what are my options of lifting the gas tank if I don't have a body lift and don't want to cut my floor? Let me know if you or someone you know has already done this. Thanks!
And if you don't know what I am talking about here is some pics

Okay just looked it up and read a bit. It looks like it might be more work than what i'm looking for. I would like to keep the tank in the same location because My spare is under the back and I wouldn't want to relocate the shock.
Does Anyone know of any ways to modify the existing tank or maybe a more shallow tank that would fit where the stock one is?

Ha well when you put it that way... I was just wondering if there was a simple way to get the tank out of the way maybe new tank that would fit in the same place but just sit higher up

Just run it till you actually need to do something about it. Are you hitting it on stuff now?
Judging by the pics of your truck I wouldn't worry about it.

Haha not a horrible idea.. But it'd probably leave me with the same clearance problem.. Would be cool as an auxiliary tank in the bed of a truck tho

Why do you NOT want to do a body lift?
You would be surprised how sturdy the factory gas tank skids are. I have bashed my '95's a lot and it only has a few small dents in it. Also, it scrapes a lot, no big deal.

what kind of wheeling are you doing to where you think you will bust it off or open? I have never seen anybody bust a gas tank on the trail. Unless your a hard core rock crawler (which no offense but by the looks of your rig your not) then I would not worry about it. Me or anybody I wheel with have ever bent or broke a tank. If you are that worried than put a fuel cell in your runner

agreed you dont need to worry about it. ive never had a problem and i have never seen any have a problem. your best bet is just leaving it alone. just pretend its not there..

Find a stock gas tank skid plate if you don't already have one. They work well and just bolt on. If you are still worried, you can weld 1"x1/4" steel flat bar on the bottom to reinforce it.

If you're wheeling it that hard I'd get sliders first before worrying about the gas tank. I've re-enforced the gas tank skid on my last 4runner, for my new one I plan on running a Ford F-series truck in place of my spare tire.

Okay I guess don't really have to worry about it but it would still be nice knowing that I don't have something hanging down . And a body lift wouldn't be too bad but then I would have a gap between my bumper and body. I have the addicted offroad bumpers do I don't think there is brackets for it ?

me and a buddy made skids for ours. 1/8 steel plate as the skid mounted to strips of 1/4 steel that encase the tank. Maybe I can get some pics up later. oh did I mention this skid bolts up to the orig skid plate holes....
