Question Fuel tank size?

hey guys, i did a search but came up empty handed. I need to know what size my gas tank is and i cant find it in any book nore on line. Just ruf estimates like 14-17 Gallons...How can i be sure?

Or maybe i should just fix the sending unit...

Either way, thanks guys.

when i had my 86 runner, i needed a new fuel pump. when i went to order it, they asked me what size tank i had. i didnt know there were more than one size of tank but apparently the pump has a longer pick-up tube for the larger tank. i gambled on the larger tank and for once, i was right/lucky. fill the tank and a gerry can, drive it till its empty, dump in the gerry can then fill up at a gas station. add the pump to the gerry can and youll be as close as possible.

If it is the same as a 2nd gen. then you either have a 17.2 or an 18.8 gallon tank.

Might help if we knew what year/model vehicle.
Common Toy sizes are 14 g and 17 g.
In some yrs long beds or SR5s have larger tanks.

84-95 4runners have 17.2 gallon tanks. 96-02 have 18.8, after that i don't know.

Long wheelbase 84-95 trucks (extended cab or long bed, I think) have 19.3 gallon tanks.

Short wheelbase is the same as the 4runner.

Tacoma's may have something different but I don't know the specs for any taco.

My last post is a perfect example of why noobs should read all previous posts after using the search....

Thank you Bob! I and the wife have been searching the web for over 2 hours on 2 'puters, and YOU are the first person/post/whatever that knew the tank size!

Love this site...
