Fuel rail hose

I have a 1987 4-runner and put a 1986 pickup motor(22re) in. I have it all in and it runs but I neglected to put on one hose. The hose is located at the back of the fuel injector rail on something that has a vacuum hose coming from it. I do not know where the hose goes. When I start the motor gas shoots out the opening.

Thanks

That sounds like the fuel pressure regulator. What hose are you referring to? The vacuum line on top of the FPR goes to the intake or a vacuum switching valve on the valve cover:

There should be no gas coming out of that line, if there is, the FPR is leaking internally and needs to be replaced.

OK. The first thing you need to do is figure out which location. On the 22re there are two locations where it could be spraying from.

When i did my headgasket, i didn't replace the copper washers on the banjo nut that connects the gas line to the fuel rail. And it was misting from this location. I got new copper washers ($1.10 a each at a dealer).

you have to use washers that are factory spec or it will leak period.

Dig up the 85 FSM and you will be able to find a picture showing them.

Let me know if you have addition questions...

For the copper washers, best bet is to either replace them (if they have been removed) or take them off and heat them to a dull red color with a propane torch and allow to cool to anneal (soften) them. Then they can be reinstalled and should be leak free. Ba sure to check the washers and sealing surfaces for any roughness or burrs and clean that up if needed.

It is on the back of the rail (closest to the firewall) kinda under the top of the intake manifold and it is definately a hose attached to it. I just do not know where to run the hose. The vacuum line comes out the top and the gas comes out the side of the fitting. I know it is not the line with the copper washers.

thanks

That is the low pressure fuel return line, vents excess fuel back to the gas tank.

I think this will work it is an image from another thread the picture shows the begining of the hose. The part is at the right end of the fuel rail, the vacuum hose connection(hose not connected) goes up and the fuel line goes down out of the picture. The fuel line is the one I need to know where it is going.

thanks

3 connections:

1. High pressure line from the fuel filter (i.e. the one with the copper washers)
2. The return line that goes back to the fuel tank
3. The vacuum control line that regulates the operating pressure

like 4 crawler said its a return line to the tank.

iirc, somewhere in the reach of that hose should be a hard line waiting for the connection
