Fuel pump replacement

Fuel pump replacement
This is my first post. I have a 1992 toyota pickup 4wd with the beloved 3vze motor. 193,000 miles and a no start condition. Turns over but sounded like no fuel. Checked codes. Got engine code 14. No CEL though. Distributer, coil, and igniter all checked out. Have spark. Replaced fuel filter. No pressure in fuel lines. Can't hear pump kicking on. Tried jumping pump from diagnostic box and by pushing VAF door up. No pump response. I have 12V power to pump. So I need to replace fuel pump.
How difficult is this to do? Any tricks or advice would be appreciated. This is my kids vehicle and he is helping me, learning as he goes. I plan on dropping the tank. Looking for advice on the replacement and. Holding the right pump. Thank you all in advance for the advice.

I suggest pulling the bed on a pickup. You can remove the bed bolts on the passenger side and loosen the drivers side and tilt it. Dropping the tank is a real pain as there is not enough slack in the lines to get to it as easy. Also depending on where you live, rust is an issue, some of the bolts that hold the tank to the frame tend to snap in two.
I get my fuel pumps off of ebay for around $30-$40 and work great. Parts store is $150 and Toyota is about double that. Was your kid runnig his tank on fumes? That will kill an electric pump as fuel keeps the pump cool.

Thank you for the reply. I actually removed the tank. It took me a couple of hours. The pump wiring was melted into the pump at the connector. I got the new pump at oriellys and it comes with wire connectors. I guess I have to cut the the original wires and use the connectors to join the wires inline by crimping them. Seems they would short out in the fuel. I need to find a way to test it to make sure it works so I don't have to drop the tank again.
Thank you for the reply. Shoulda lifted the bed. Woulda been easier. Any help with the wiring would be much appreciated.

I have seen that wiring kit that they send with them and have not figured out how they want you to use it. Probably have to crimp it like you mentioned. The post on the pump for the nuts that connect the wire are different sizr from all the ones I have seen 6 or 8 mm post. Forget which is which but it is marked on top of the pump.

The wiring plugs into the pump itself. Two wires extend from the connection and need to be joined with the wires riveted into the pump stand. Thus wires are literally joined by butt connectors. Seems like they could spark inside the tank but I guess fuel vapor probably pushes the oxygen out of the tank. I think I will call the company tomorrow and make sure before I button it all back up. Don't want to drop everything again. Thanks for your help. I don't want to overthink this.

Electrical in the tank does seem like a fire hazard but it is working so it must be safe. While I had the tank out, I would check to see if your lines are clear. I have seen the Return Lines clogged on several of these trucks.
