Fuel Line Question 86 carb pickup
Hey guys, new to the forum but not to yotas. I'm working on an 86 carbeurated 4x4 for a buddy of mine. We replaced a lot of parts the other day including the fuel pump and the filter. Had the truck running good and drove it about 10 miles. We also rebuilt the carb at the same time because it had some issues. Well lomg story short the boy left to go home and got 2 miles up the road and called and said he was broke down. We got up there to him and I fired the truck up. It ran good at idle for a few minutes so I jumped in the driver seat and took off. 1/4 mile up the road the truck seemed to run out of gas. We filled it up with gas and repeated in 1/4 intervals as far as the truck would make it. The slower I drove the farther we could go. We adjusted the float in the carb several times thinking that was the issue but no luck. After some further cussing and investigation I took a look at the fuel filter. Crank the truck and the filter is full but at idle over a few minutes the level is dropping in the filter all the way down to about 1/16 of an inch. So I also see some air bubbles goin thru the filter so at this point I'm sure I have an air leak or the sock in the tank is clogged up with stuff(I'm assuming there is a sock). Anyway I'm gonna replace the rubber lines to rule them out but I have had pinholes in the metal lines before. Id like to replace it all while the bed is off the truck but I'm not sure what the piece is called. Tried searching the internet and this forum but no luck. Idk if you can even buy those assemblies new or not but any help would be appreciated or any other ideas as to what my problem is.
Thanks
Thanks

you didn't happen to have all the fuel hoses off the line near the firewall did you? Maybe you mixed them up and it's attempting to pull fuel from what would be the return line. I've done that before and got the supply and return lines mixed up.

The only place I had them off was at the fuel pump on the front of the engine. We considered that we may have gotten them mixed up but it really looked like there was only one way it could go. Definitely worth checking out though and ill look into it again. The weird thing was it ran good for quite a bit of hard and driving. Thanks for the reply
